The Troy office is where Thrush & Son® meets Miami County homeowners face to face. It sits right on Troy’s Public Square, a full-service branch of the family-owned company that Wilbur Thrush started in 1960 and that still calls Brookville home.

Allen Thrush, the second generation of the family, bought and expanded the business in 1989. In 2005 he built his own estimating software, Contractor Rush, which uses aerial imaging to measure a roof and turn it into a detailed estimate. It’s why a Troy homeowner gets the same numbers, materials, and process as a homeowner in Brookville.

Why the Troy Office Slows Down for Older Homes
Troy is the county seat of Miami County, sitting along the Great Miami River about 19 miles north of Dayton. According to the city’s Wikipedia entry, the Public Square is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and 16 of the 22 welded steel houses Hobart built in Troy survive on the register too.

Homes near the Square and the river often have original trim, more than one layer of old shingles, and framing that has settled for a century. Our crew checks the wood before covering it, matches the character of the house, and flashes chimneys and old dormers so they stay dry.
Weather adds its own wear. Miami County winters swing above and below freezing for weeks, which opens gaps at flashing and lets ice dams form at the eaves. Spring storms move up the I-75 corridor with wind and hail. That’s why we put ice and water barrier at the eaves and valleys, balance attic ventilation, and size gutters for the roof above them.
Under Troy Codified Ordinances Chapter 1313, exterior work in the Historical Troy Architectural District goes through the Board of Architectural Review, which advises the City Planning Commission. How the Troy Office Started
The family looked at several cities before choosing Troy. Allen told the Troy Tribune the downtown was “vibrant and welcoming of new businesses,” and that Troy would be a great city to work with. The new storefront opened as a full-service branch, so Troy homeowners could get everything Brookville offered without the drive.
Around the opening, Thrush & Son sponsored an Eagles tribute concert and the Troy Noon Optimist Club’s Halloween parade. Giving back was part of the plan from day one.
Michelle Thrush, the company’s vice president, put the goal simply: “We want to build long-lasting relationships with people.” Corey Thrush added that the team should be a cut above: “We may be in the contracting business but we always want to demonstrate our respect for our clients and each other in the way we dress, speak, and act.”
