A new window only works if they’re sealed into the wall
The glass gets the attention. The install decides whether a window stays tight for decades.
Replacement windows from Thrush & Son are Nobility vinyl windows, measured for each opening and installed by the family-run company Dayton homeowners have called since 1960. We offer two Nobility collections, Diamond and Platinum, in the styles most Miami Valley homes use.
A drafty room is rarely the glass alone. It’s the gap around the frame, a sill that was never flashed, or a sash that no longer latches tight. When we replace a window, we deal with all of it: the frame is set level and square, the gaps are sealed, and the outside is trimmed so water runs off instead of in.
Most homeowners notice the difference first as comfort: fewer drafts, warmer glass in January, quieter rooms. See our window and door page for everything else we install.

Six styles of windows, one for every opening
Most homes use two or three. We match the style to how each room is used.
Double-hung
Both sashes slide and tilt in for cleaning. The most common window in Ohio homes, and the easiest swap for an old double-hung.
Casement
Crank out from one side and seal tight against the frame when closed. Good for reaching over a sink or catching a side breeze.
Slider
One sash glides sideways. A simple, wide opening for basements, bedrooms and spots where a crank would be in the way.
Picture windows
Fixed glass with no moving parts, for the most view and the least air leakage. Often paired with an operating window on each side.
Bay and bow windows
Three or more units projecting from the wall. Adds light, a deep sill and a little floor space to a living room.
Awning
Hinged at the top and opening outward, so they can stay cracked open in a light rain. Common over doors and in bathrooms.
Two collections of windows, built the same way
Both are fusion-welded vinyl with the same lock, weatherstripping and warranty. The difference is the glass and what fills the frame.
We’ll bring both to your estimate so you can see and operate them side by side.

What the numbers on new windows mean
Every certified window carries a performance label. Here’s how to read it.
U-factor
How easily heat passes through the whole window. Lower is better, and it matters most in an Ohio winter.
Solar heat gain (SHGC)
How much of the sun’s heat comes through the glass. Lower keeps west-facing rooms cooler in summer.
Low-E coating
A thin metal coating on the glass that reflects heat back toward its source, in winter and summer.
Argon gas fill
A dense, clear gas between the panes that slows heat transfer compared with air.
Warm-edge spacer
The strip that separates the panes. Warm-edge designs like the TPS spacer keep the glass edge warmer and cut condensation.
Air leakage
How much air sneaks through the window itself. The install decides how much sneaks around it.
Fog on the inside of the glass is usually indoor humidity, not a bad window. Our condensation Q&A explains why it happens and what helps. See ENERGY STAR’s window guide or the Department of Energy for more detail.
Installing windows so they stay tight
Most window problems we fix are install problems, not glass problems.
Measure every opening
Each window is ordered to its own opening, because old houses are rarely square.
Check the sill and frame
We probe for soft wood before the new window goes in, and show you anything we find.
Set, shim and seal
The window is set level and plumb, and the gap around it is sealed so air can’t move around the frame.
Trim the outside
Exterior trim is wrapped so water sheds off the head and sill. See our exterior trim page.
What Dayton homeowners say about us
Reviews from homeowners across the Miami Valley, pulled straight from the review sites.
Windows as part of the whole house
A new window looks its best when the trim and siding around it are right too.
-
Black frames
Dark exterior frames give a modern farmhouse sharp lines against light siding.
-
Trimmed in with siding
Window trim installed with new siding, so every opening is flashed at the same time.
-
The whole exterior
Roof, siding and window work planned together on one house.
