It’s your lifetime in the home
For original individual owners of a single-family home, GAF Lifetime coverage lasts as long as you own the house. Corporations, associations and other owners receive a 40-year term instead.
The first years matter most
The Smart Choice® period is non-prorated, so covered defects are handled at full value. It’s 10 years on the standard warranty and 50 years on GAF’s enhanced system warranties. After that, coverage is prorated.
It can follow the house
Sell your home and the Lifetime term can pass to the next owner, but only when the coverage is transferred properly during the Smart Choice® period. Keep the paperwork where you’ll find it.

Seven steps, in the order our crews install them. Every one counts toward a complete system.
Step 1Leak barrier
A self-adhering, rubberized-asphalt membrane applied along eaves, valleys, rakes and penetrations to stop leaks from ice dams and wind-driven rain.
Step 2Roof deck protection (underlayment)
A synthetic or asphalt-felt layer installed across the remaining roof deck to provide a secondary weather-resistant barrier.
Step 3Starter strips
Factory-applied sealant shingles installed along the eaves and rakes to prevent blow-offs and seal the first course of shingles.
Step 4Asphalt shingles
The primary outer waterproof and UV-resistant layer, such as GAF Timberline® HDZ™ shingles.
Step 5Rooftop accessories
Specialized components like drip edge, flashing and pipe boots that manage drainage at every transition.
Step 6Attic ventilation
Balanced intake at the soffit and exhaust at the ridge that regulate attic heat and moisture.

What do I need for an enhanced GAF warranty?
A GAF Lifetime shingle, the required number of qualifying GAF accessories (three to five, depending on the tier), and installation by a contractor holding the GAF certification that tier requires.
