Every GAF shingle we install, side by side
Five shingles, one page, no brochure shuffling.
GAF shingles cover more Miami Valley roofs than any other brand we install. GAF makes more shingles than any one contractor needs, so we’ve narrowed it to the five architectural and designer shingles we install and stand behind. This page puts all of them in one place so you can compare looks, impact ratings and warranties before we ever climb a ladder.
Thrush & Son has roofed Dayton-area homes since 1960 and is a GAF President’s Club contractor. Browse the lineup below, then tap any shingle to jump to its details.

Timberline® UHDZ™ with UltraMat™
UHDZ is the step up from HDZ. GAF builds it on a high-performance UltraMat™ fiberglass mat, adds a patented dual shadow line for a deeper look, and backs it with a 30-year StainGuard Plus PRO™ limited warranty against blue-green algae. It keeps LayerLock™ technology and qualifies for WindProven™ coverage.
- Class 4 impact
- Class A fire
- 30-year algae warranty
Timberline® AS II

AS II uses a proprietary SBS-modified asphalt that stays flexible, so a hailstone is more likely to bruise the surface than crack the mat. It pairs that toughness with the same architectural look as HDZ, a 25-year StainGuard Plus™ algae warranty and WindProven™ eligibility. It’s the shingle we suggest when a home has already been through a hail claim.
- Class 4 impact
- SBS modified
- WindProven eligible
Insurance tip: some insurers discount premiums for a roof with Class 4 GAF shingles. Ask your agent before you choose, and we’ll provide the product documentation they ask for.
Statement roofs without the slate price
The two designer GAF shingles still in production, both now rated Class 4 for impact.
Camelot® II
Artisan-crafted shapes with oversized tabs, inspired by European architecture.
Camelot II gives a roof the layered, old-world character you usually see on custom homes. The oversized tabs sit on a 7.5-inch exposure, so each course reads bolder from the street than a standard architectural shingle. Colors include Charcoal, Antique Slate, Barkwood, Royal Slate and Weathered Timber.

Slateline®
The tailored lines of real slate, at a fraction of the cost.
Slateline uses bold shadow lines and tapered cut-outs to recreate the clean, flat look of slate. It’s far lighter than stone, so most homes need no added structural support, and it suits Tudors, colonials and newer builds that want a crisp, tailored roofline.

What about cost? Designer GAF shingles cost more than Timberline because they use more material and take longer to install. We price both options side by side on your estimate, so you see the real difference in dollars, not guesses.

All three Timberline shingles share LayerLock™ technology and the StrikeZone™ nailing area, which GAF rates at up to 99.9% nailing accuracy. Every one of these GAF shingles also uses StainGuard® algae protection to fight the black streaks common on Ohio roofs. Installed as a full GAF system, they can qualify for stronger coverage like our GAF warranties.

Looking for a wood-shake or custom look?
Two of the GAF shingles we install come closest.
Woodland, Grand Sequoia AS and Glenwood
Woodland is no longer available through our suppliers, and we don’t install Grand Sequoia AS or Glenwood. We’d rather install five GAF shingles extremely well than offer everything once.
If you love a thick, sculpted roofline, Camelot II and Slateline deliver that look with Class 4 impact ratings. Browse GAF’s designer shingle collection or see finished roofs in our project gallery.
Quick answers before you pick a shingle
What Miami Valley homeowners ask us most at the kitchen table.
Which GAF shingles does Thrush & Son install?
We install five GAF shingles: Timberline HDZ, Timberline UHDZ, Timberline AS II, Camelot II and Slateline. Every roof goes on as a complete GAF system with matching underlayment, starter strips, ridge caps and ventilation.
What is the difference between Timberline UHDZ and HDZ?
UHDZ is the premium version. It adds UltraMat technology, a dual shadow line, a Class 4 impact rating and a 30-year StainGuard Plus PRO algae warranty. HDZ is rated Class 3 and carries a 25-year StainGuard Plus warranty.
Which GAF shingles are Class 4 impact rated?
Of the shingles we install, Timberline UHDZ, Timberline AS II, Camelot II and Slateline all carry a UL 2218 Class 4 rating, the highest available. Timberline HDZ is rated Class 3.
Will a Class 4 roof lower my insurance?
It can. Some insurers discount premiums for Class 4 roofs, but it depends on your company and your policy. Ask your agent first, and we'll supply the GAF documentation they need.
Do you install Woodland, Grand Sequoia AS or Glenwood?
No. Woodland is no longer available through our suppliers, and we don't install Grand Sequoia AS or Glenwood. For a similar thick, dimensional look, we recommend Camelot II or Slateline.
Are designer shingles worth the extra cost?
If your roof is a big part of what people see from the street, often yes. Designer shingles add depth and character that standard architectural shingles can't match. We'll price both so you can decide.
Is Timberline HDZ right for your roof?
Most homes land on HDZ. Here’s when another GAF shingle makes more sense.
There’s no single best shingle for every house. The right pick depends on how much hail your neighborhood sees, how much of the roof shows from the street and how long you plan to stay. We’ll talk through all three at your estimate.
