BooBoo Rescue Story is more than a headline—it’s a reminder that compassion changes outcomes. At Thrush & Son®, we believe in second chances, not only for homes but for the hearts that live in them. BooBoo, our official mascot, went from discarded and starving to healthy, joyful, and fiercely loved. Her journey is the reason we’re raising awareness and inviting our community to act.
A Tragic Beginning
When the Miami Valley Pit Crew first encountered BooBoo (She was originally known as Black Betty), she wasn’t the happy, wiggly dog you see today. She was found in a crate—emaciated, sick, and barely able to move—only about 24 pounds and clearly very young. The cruelty report documented heartbreaking neglect, including “severe maggot infestation” in all four feet. That kind of suffering doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time to become that weak, that malnourished, and that hurt. BooBoo Rescue Story starts in that dark place because telling the truth honors what she survived and shines a light on what too many animals still endure.
We don’t need to guess at dramatic details; what’s documented is already more than enough. A puppy was abandoned in a crate so small she couldn’t turn around. She was literally tossed aside like garbage. From experience, cases like this rarely develop in days; they build over weeks and months when basic needs go unmet. It’s unacceptable—and it’s happening in neighborhoods just like ours.

From Neglect to Care
BooBoo’s rescue was the turning point. Volunteers, veterinarians, and fosters worked together to reverse the damage. Nutrition, medical care, rest, and patient love started the climb back. It wasn’t instant. It wasn’t easy. But it was possible because a community refused to look away. That’s why we share the BooBoo Rescue Story so openly. It proves what happens when ordinary people do extraordinary things: a life is saved, and hope returns. Today, BooBoo represents what we value as a family-owned company—showing up, doing the right thing, and finishing the job with heart and accountability.
As her strength returned, BooBoo learned that hands could be gentle, that bowls could be full, and that quiet places could be safe. Small victories—eating a full meal, settling into a clean bed, trusting a new person—stacked up into a future that once didn’t exist. The BooBoo Rescue Story is really a blueprint for recovery: consistent care, patient training, and a circle of people who won’t quit.
BooBoo Rescue Story: Healing & Triumph
As BooBoo healed, her spirit came roaring back. Strength replaced frailty. Curiosity replaced fear. The playful, social side of her flourished, and she quickly became a favorite wherever she went. And now for the fun part—the truth about what she “does” today. BooBoo greets customers, hangs out with our staff, and keeps morale high. In the office we joke that she’s a supervisor who’s often caught playing or taking one nap too many. That light, happy energy is proof of how far she’s come and why her story continues to inspire.

How You Can Help (Action Checklist)
• Be aware. Cruelty is often hidden—sudden weight loss, open sores, constant confinement, or fearful behavior are red flags.
• Document and report. If you see something, say something. Learn reporting steps at the ASPCA: https://www.aspca.org
• Support local rescues. Donate supplies, volunteer time, share adoptable pets, or foster when you can—every hour and every bag of food matters.
• Adopt thoughtfully. Choose responsible adoption and commit to training, healthcare, exercise, and enrichment; prevention prevents surrender.
• Teach kids. Compassion is learned. Model gentle handling and respect for animals early.
• Share the BooBoo Rescue Story to encourage action and hope within your own circles.
