An Editorial Update on Kaycan Products and Our DaVinci Siding Video
Kaycan products were once part of our siding lineup, and this archived video breaks down the DaVinci vinyl siding system and its “fade factor.” Here’s where we stand today, what we install now, and what still holds true about fade-resistant siding.
At this time, Thrush & Son® no longer endorses, promotes, represents, or maintains any partnership affiliation with Kaycan Products or its affiliated products, systems, or brands. While this archived discussion remains part of our company history and educational content library, it does not reflect the current product partnerships, recommendations, or installation standards we use today.
This video reflects a past business relationship and a product discussion from a different period in the exterior remodeling industry. Since it was first published, we have reevaluated several manufacturer relationships as part of our ongoing commitment to product performance, accountability, and long-term homeowner protection.

Watch: Kaycan Products and the DaVinci Vinyl Siding System (Part 2)
Part 2 of our original series on Kaycan products focused on the fade factor: how vinyl siding holds its color over the years. The lessons about color and weathering still apply, even though the partnership doesn’t.
Our standards
Why We Moved On From Kaycan Products
Since 1960, Thrush & Son® has built its reputation on something larger than product marketing: accountability. We believe manufacturers should stand firmly behind the products they produce, the warranties they advertise, and the long-term performance homeowners are promised.
If a manufacturer relationship no longer aligns with our standards for reliability, transparency, responsiveness, or homeowner protection, we move in a different direction, regardless of past affiliations or recognition. That is the whole story behind our decision about Kaycan products.

That philosophy runs deep in our company history. As a family-owned business serving generations of Miami Valley homeowners, our job has never been to protect corporate partnerships. It has always been to protect the homeowner sitting across the table from us. Our name is on every project.
The exterior remodeling industry has changed dramatically over the decades. Product technology, manufacturing practices, warranty structures, and homeowner expectations keep evolving, so we keep evaluating the materials, systems, and manufacturers behind our projects.
Integrity means being willing to evolve in public when standards change. It means putting the homeowner first, even when a business decision is hard. That is why this page now carries an editorial update instead of quietly disappearing.
Still true today
The Fade Factor, Explained
The video about Kaycan products asked a question every siding shopper should ask: will this color last? Tap through the five fade factors. The strip under each one shows color shifting with sun and time.
Sunlight
All products exposed to enough sunlight and weather will eventually fade. The real questions, as Pro Trade Craft puts it, are how much and how soon. That’s the “fade factor” the original video talked about.
The color layer
On modern vinyl, the color lives in a fused capstock layer, roughly 10 to 15 percent of the panel’s thickness. It won’t peel, flake, or chalk like paint, because it isn’t paint.
Deep colors
Darker colors used to bleach toward pastel and soak up heat. UV-resistant polymers and infrared-reflecting pigments have reduced those effects considerably, which is why deep blues, greens, and grays are common today.
Certification
The Vinyl Siding Institute certifies color retention against ASTM standards. Look for the VSI label on the carton or brochure; the VSI program overview explains what it covers.
Fade warranty
Read the fade terms, not just the headline. CertainTeed backs its American Legend siding with its PermaCOLOR system and lifetime fade protection; check the warranty documents for details.
Even certified siding won’t match a ten-year-old weathered panel exactly, but the house should stay essentially the same color, per Pro Trade Craft. More in our vinyl siding durability guide.

Have Kaycan Products on Your Home Already?
Plenty of Miami Valley homes have Kaycan products on their walls, and nothing about this update changes the siding on your house. Here’s what to know.
- Keep the paperworkYour warranty on existing siding is issued by the manufacturer, not the installer. Keep the registration and purchase records together.
- Contact the manufacturer for warranty questionsClaims on existing Kaycan products go to the manufacturer directly, under the terms you received.
- Clean it gentlyA soft brush and mild soapy water, rinsed from the top down, is the safe way to wash any vinyl siding.
- Watch the heatKeep grills and fire pits well away from vinyl walls, and be careful with reflective glass that can focus sunlight.
- Call us when it’s timePlanning a change or need storm damage looked at? We’ll inspect the whole exterior and walk through today’s siding options.
Questions to ask before your next siding project
Is the color VSI certified for color retention? What does the fade warranty cover, and for how long? Is it transferable? Who handles claims? Our guide to the warranty shows how to read the fine print, and our insulated siding guide explains why foam-backed panels are worth a look.

Kaycan Products: Your Questions, Answered
Does Thrush & Son still install Kaycan products?
No. We no longer endorse, promote, represent, or partner with Kaycan Products or its affiliated brands. The archived video remains part of our company history.
Why did you stop working with Kaycan Products?
We regularly review every manufacturer relationship against our standards for reliability, transparency, responsiveness, and homeowner protection. This relationship no longer reflects how we work today, so we moved in a different direction.
I have Kaycan siding. Who handles my warranty?
Manufacturer warranties are issued by the manufacturer. Contact the manufacturer directly with your registration and purchase records. We’re glad to inspect your exterior if you have concerns.
What siding do you install now?
CertainTeed vinyl siding, including CedarBoards insulated siding, Board & Batten, and American Legend. Compare looks in our vinyl siding styles guide.
Does vinyl siding fade?
Eventually, all exterior products do. Look for VSI-certified color retention and a clear fade warranty. See our vinyl siding durability guide.
Why keep the old Kaycan Products video online?
It’s part of our history and our educational library, and the general lessons about fade and color still help homeowners. This update makes clear it doesn’t reflect our current partnerships.
Can you help me choose a new siding color?
Yes. Try the visualizer on this page, read our siding colors guide, and see full-size samples at our Exterior Design Center.
