The Golden Pledge warranty, explained
Most roofing warranties cover the shingles and stop there. This one goes further: long-term, non-prorated coverage on the materials and on the installation, backed by GAF instead of only the contractor who put it on.
For a homeowner planning to stay put, or one who wants the roof to help sell the house someday, that difference matters.
It’s also the hardest warranty to get. Only a small group of contractors can register it, and only on a complete roofing system installed to GAF’s specs. Thrush & Son can register your new roof under Golden Pledge, and this page explains exactly what that means for you.

Standard warranty vs. Golden Pledge
Every GAF shingle comes with a basic warranty, no matter who installs it. The difference shows up when something goes wrong with the installation, which is where most roof problems start.
Here’s what that looks like in real life. If a flashing detail was installed wrong and a leak shows up years later, a standard warranty leaves you calling the original contractor and hoping they’re still in business. With this coverage, the claim goes to GAF, and the cost to fix the installation error is covered during the non-prorated period.

| Coverage | Standard shingle warranty | Golden Pledge |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturing defects | 10 years non-prorated | 50 years non-prorated |
| Installation errors | Not covered | 25–30 years non-prorated |
| Tear-off and disposal | Not covered | Covered on qualifying claims |
| Who backs the labor | Your contractor, if anyone | GAF |
| Required installer | Anyone | GAF Master Elite® only |
Four things every qualifying roof needs
The coverage is only as strong as the paperwork behind it. Miss one of these and the roof falls back to a lesser warranty.
Our job is to handle all four for you. We spec the full system on your proposal, install it to GAF’s instructions, register the roof and send you the certificate, so you never have to wonder whether the coverage is real.

- A GAF Master Elite® installerGAF only allows its Master Elite contractors to register Golden Pledge, roughly 2% of roofers in the country.
- A complete GAF roofing systemDeck protection, leak barrier, starter strips, ventilation, ridge caps and proper flashing all have to be part of the job.
- Registration within 30 daysThe contractor registers the roof with GAF after the install. Late registration can put the coverage at risk.
- Your paperwork on fileKeep the registration certificate with your contract and invoice. It’s your proof if you ever file a claim or sell.
What it doesn’t cover
No warranty covers everything, and the best contractors tell you that up front. Knowing the limits now saves a frustrating phone call later.
In the Miami Valley, the big one is weather. Spring hail and summer wind are insurance claims, not warranty claims. What this coverage does is make sure a well-built roof stays protected against defects and installation mistakes for decades after the storm season ends.

- Normal wear and weatheringShingles age. The warranty covers defects and installation errors, not the roof getting older.
- Storm damage and acts of natureHail, fallen trees and severe wind events belong with your homeowner’s insurance.
- Changes after the installSatellite dishes, solar mounts or other work done later by someone else can affect coverage.
- NeglectClogged gutters, trapped debris and damage that’s ignored can weaken a claim.
- Unregistered roofsIf the roof was never registered with GAF, there’s nothing to claim against.
Earned, not claimed
Family-owned since 1960, we install every one of these roofs as a complete system and register it ourselves, so the coverage is in place before the last crew member leaves.

What is the Golden Pledge warranty?
Golden Pledge is GAF's strongest residential roofing warranty. It adds long-term, non-prorated coverage on both manufacturing defects and installation errors, backed by GAF instead of only the contractor.
Who can offer the Golden Pledge warranty?
Only GAF Master Elite roofing contractors can register a roof under this warranty. GAF estimates that's about 2% of roofing contractors in the country.
How long does the coverage last?
Manufacturing defects are covered non-prorated for 50 years. Installation errors are covered non-prorated for 25 years on Timberline HDZ and 30 years on Timberline AS II and UHDZ.
Is the warranty transferable?
GAF's standard warranties transfer once to the next homeowner for free, and this coverage can transfer to a second owner in certain circumstances. Ask us how it applies to your home.
Is Weather Stopper the same as Golden Pledge?
Yes. Weather Stopper is the name GAF used for its roofing system and warranty program for years. Today GAF simply calls it the Golden Pledge Limited Warranty.
