How does metal compare to asphalt shingles in bad weather?
Metal is built for the extremes: high wind, hail impact and fire exposure, while holding its shape. Shingles are more vulnerable to heat, to ice and snow buildup, and to the slow wear of years of weather.
If you want a roof that keeps performing through hard seasons rather than one you inspect after every storm, metal is usually the stronger answer.
What warranty comes with a metal roof?
Most metal systems carry long-term coverage, often twenty to fifty years, against manufacturing defects and weathertight performance when installed correctly. The terms vary by product line and by installation requirements.

Is the paint finish covered separately?
Yes. Finish warranties are separate from the panel warranty and commonly run fifteen to forty years depending on the coating. The colors we install carry a 40-year limited paint warranty.
Finish coverage protects against fading, chalking and peeling, so the color you pick still looks like the color you picked a decade from now.
How long does a metal roof actually last?
Fifty years or more with very little upkeep, which is two to three times what an asphalt roof gives you. No tear-off every twenty years, no granule loss, no curling.
Is a metal roof loud in the rain?
Not on a house. Installed over solid decking and underlayment, a residential metal roof is only slightly louder than shingles. The noisy tin roof people picture is metal over open framing, like a barn.

How does metal hold up to hail compared to shingles?
Far better, functionally. Hail on metal usually leaves cosmetic dents rather than a path for water. Hail on asphalt cracks shingles, strips granules and shortens the roof’s life, often without an obvious leak for a year or two.
In a serious hail event, a shingle roof frequently needs repair or replacement while a metal roof stays weathertight.
What do insurers often exclude on metal roof finishes?
Many policies exclude cosmetic damage: dents or surface marks from hail that do not cause a leak or affect how the roof performs. You can have visible damage and no coverage for it.
This is worth reading in your policy before a storm, not after. Ask your agent whether cosmetic damage is excluded on your metal roof.
Why is some storm damage called cosmetic?
Because it changes how the roof looks without changing what it does. A non-penetrating dent still sheds water and still protects the structure, so insurers classify it as appearance rather than damage.
