Metal Siding

Metal siding that holds its line through every Ohio season

Vertical board-and-batten in steel, installed over a properly flashed wall by a family business that has worked on Miami Valley homes since 1960.

Metal siding gives you the clean vertical lines of board-and-batten without the upkeep of wood. The panels don't absorb water, don't crack when the temperature drops below zero, and give insects nothing to eat.

What makes metal siding installation last is the wall behind it. We flash every window, door and penetration before the first panel goes up, keep the trim lines straight, and follow the manufacturer's installation requirements so the warranty stays intact.

Metal siding works across a whole house or as an accent: a gable, a porch wall, or an entry set against vinyl or stone. It also pairs naturally with a metal roof.

  • Won't crack in the cold

Vinyl gets brittle in a hard freeze. Steel behaves the same in January as it does in July.

  • Doesn't burn

Steel is noncombustible, so the siding itself adds no fuel to a fire.

  • No scraping, no repainting

The factory finish carries the color. A rinse with a garden hose keeps it clean.

  • Worth knowing

    It can dent

Large hail can dent steel where it might crack vinyl. A damaged panel can be replaced on its own, so ask us about keeping spares from your color run.

Metal vs. the Alternatives

Where metal wins, and where it doesn't

Every material trades something. Here is the honest comparison, including the one place steel comes second.

Metal
Vinyl
Wood
Hard freeze
Unaffected. No brittleness at any temperature.
Gets brittle. An impact can split it.
Absorbs water, then the freeze splits it.
Fire
Noncombustible.
Melts and burns.
Burns.
Insects
Nothing to eat.
Nothing to eat.
Termites and carpenter bees.
Upkeep
Rinse it occasionally.
Rinse it occasionally.
Scrape and repaint every five to seven years.
Hail
Can dent. Individual panels are replaceable.
Can crack, especially in cold weather.
Dents and gouges, then needs filling and painting.
Cost
Higher than vinyl.
The most affordable option.
High, and it keeps costing.
What We Install

Two panel systems, one vertical line

Both are steel. The difference is the batten profile and how bold you want the shadow line to read.

Metal Wall Batten Panels

The full board-and-batten look in steel, with a raised batten that throws a real shadow line. Modern farmhouse is where this lands hardest, but it suits a plain ranch elevation just as well.

PBA Metal Wall Panels

A flatter, tighter profile for a cleaner modern face. Good on porch ceilings, entries and accent walls where you want the material to read without the batten competing for attention.

Try metal siding on your home

Colors and profiles vary by availability. We bring physical samples to every estimate so you see the finish against your roof and trim in daylight. The Metal Construction Association has more on how metal wall panels are made and rated.

Metal Siding FAQ

Straight answers before you decide

Including the questions steel does not answer as well as other materials do.

Schedule your estimate
What is metal siding made of?

Steel panels protected by a metallic coating, usually zinc (galvanized) or an aluminum-zinc blend (Galvalume), under a factory-applied paint finish. The exact coating and finish depend on the product, and we will tell you which one your panels use before you sign.

Does metal siding hold up to Ohio weather?

Steel does not absorb water, does not swell, and does not crack in a hard freeze, so freeze-thaw cycles do not work it apart the way they can other materials. How well it performs over time depends on the wall behind it, which is why we install a water-resistive barrier and flash every opening before the first panel goes up.

How long does metal siding last?

The honest guide is the manufacturer's written warranty for the specific product, because finishes and coatings vary. We give you that warranty in writing before you sign, and we install to the manufacturer's requirements so it stays valid.

Will steel siding rust?

The coating and paint finish protect the steel. Rust starts where bare steel is exposed, such as a deep scratch or a cut edge, so we handle cut edges the way the manufacturer requires and cover them with trim.

If a panel gets scratched through to bare metal, touch it up or call us.

Can steel siding dent?

Yes. Large hail or a hard impact can dent steel, where the same hit might crack vinyl. A damaged panel can be replaced on its own, so we suggest keeping a few spare panels from your color run.

Hail damage to siding is often an insurance claim, and our storm damage team can inspect and document it.

Is metal siding noisy in the rain?

No. Siding is a vertical wall installed over solid sheathing, so rain runs down it rather than drumming on it the way it can on an open metal roof. You should not notice a difference from any other siding.

How does steel siding compare to vinyl?

Steel will not crack in the cold and does not burn, but it costs more and can dent. Vinyl costs less and comes in more colors and profiles, but it can crack from an impact in cold weather.

Many homes use both, with steel on the gables or porch and vinyl siding on the main walls.

Does metal siding need painting?

No. The color is a factory-applied finish, so there is no scraping or repainting. An occasional rinse with a garden hose keeps it clean. How the finish is covered against fading and chalking depends on the manufacturer's warranty.

Can steel go over my existing siding?

We do not recommend it. Going over old siding hides whatever is happening on the wall underneath, and if there is moisture damage in the sheathing you have sealed it in.

We tear off, look at the wall, fix what needs fixing, then install. It costs more up front and it is why the work holds.
