Signs That Our Storm Damage Repair Contractors Look For

Hail Damage

The one sure thing about the weather is that it is always unpredictable. Severe storms can wreak havoc on your house, car, and city. A house can easily be pummeled with unsightly dents and holes in the siding, with the shingles on your roof being damaged due to hail. The cost to repair hail damage can be shocking because the damage is commonly spread across your entire roof and home. The good news is, that it's possible hail damage could be covered under your insurance policy. If your home has experienced hail damage, don't hesitate, call today for a free hail inspection!

Wind Damage

High winds can cause damage to your roof, even without hail or other harmful weather. There are several types of damage high winds can cause to your roof, including leaks, missing shingles, and gutter problems. High winds do not hit your roof evenly across the surface. The corners, the edges of the roof, and the ridge line are especially susceptible to damage from high winds. High winds can cause your roof to “lift.” While the shingles may look intact from the ground, extreme winds coming up over the roof can create a suction effect and “lift” the shingles upwards, loosening the nails which are holding them down.

Lightning

When lightning strikes a house, it can travel in any number of directions. Roofs often take a major hit, and metal gutters are especially susceptible, too. The surge usually takes the path of least resistance, which means electricity can run throughout all of the wiring and even plumbing in your home. A bolt of lightning is damaging enough on its own. It can puncture a roof, sear the surrounding materials, and tear through attics. A powerful enough strike can tear off shingles and gutters, leaving the roof a disaster. If your home has experienced lightning damage, don't hesitate, call today for a free inspection!

Insurance Claims

Your home is one of your greatest assets. With this, the integrity of your roof is of great importance. While preventive measures are taken to ensure the most weather resistant roof possible during construction, severe weather does happen. Sometimes roofing systems suffer damage from hail, high winds, and other forms of extreme weather. This is one reason that insurance plays an important role in the roofing business. We are here to walk you through the insurance claims process and to help you have a better understanding of how everything works if a claim is to be filed due to damage if found.

Facts About Hail

  • According to the National Weather Service, hail results in roughly $1 billion in damages per year in the United States
  • If the roof on your home did incur damage by hail, the affected shingles will weather and erode much faster - shortening the life of your roof.
  • Hail damage to asphalt shingles includes severe granule loss, material removal at the edges of the shingles and penetration.
  • A home owner should have their roof re-inspected after the most extreme weather season after the initial storm to see if further damage has incurred such as bruising and granule loss.
  • There is a possibility that if hail damage goes unnoticed, over a 2-3 year period, your home may experience sever consequences including, water damage, mildew and rot, damage to walls, ceilings, insulation and electrical systems.

How The Insurance Claim Process Works

  • Call 937.833.5136 or contact Thrush & Son® for a free, no obligation storm damage inspection. The purpose for this inspection is to see whether or not you have storm damage and decide whether or not the damage warrants a claim.
  • If sufficient damage is found, we will recommend that you contact your insurance company to file a property claim and we will prepare a storm damage report/scope of loss on spot for you and your insurance provider.
  • Your Thrush & Son® representative will meet with your insurance companies adjuster at your home on the day of the inspection. We recommend that you have us at your home when the insurance adjuster arrives to make sure that both parties agree on the scope of damage.
  • Your Thrush & Son® representative will walk your property thoroughly with your insurance adjuster during the inspection to ensure that the scope of property damage is agreed upon.
  • You will receive an adjuster's report from your insurance company detailing the storm damage that was found at your home and how much they are willing to pay for the necessary repairs. Your Thrush & Son® representative will review the estimate to see that the scope and price are adequate for the needed restoration of your property
  • With the adjuster's report, if approved, you will receive an initial payment. The initial payment may equate to roughly half for the allotted amount for the project. The amount being held back is called your recoverable depreciation. When your project is completed the recoverable depreciation is then released as a final payment. If the checks have your mortgage companies name listed, immediately contact your mortgage company to request endorsement. This process may take a few weeks.
  • If Thrush & Son® feels that the proper repairs cannot be completed for the allotted amount of money, Thrush & Son® will deal directly with your insurance company to explain how we arrived to our scope of loss. This is done to ensure that adequate funds are available for the necessary repairs to your home.
  • After the insurance company and Thrush & Son® have settled on a price for your repairs, your representative will work with you to select the project materials/colors and set a date to begin the project.
  • Upon completion of your project, your Thrush & Son® representative will do a final walk through of your property and review the photo specs from the specific crew that was assigned to your home. Thrush & Son® then requires that the homeowner release payment of the initial check that was issued to them from their insurance provider.
  • You are then required to notify your insurance provider that your repairs are complete; your Thrush & Son® representative may assist you, if needed. At this time, any additional funds being held by your insurance provider will be released to you. When the final insurance payment is in your possession, Thrush & Son® will arrange a time to collect the final payment.
  • During the close out appointment, your Thrush & Son® representative will collect the final payment at this time and provide you with a final receipt.
